The next step in MI networking announced
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BRUSSELS (Belgium), 20 March 2009 - At the coming Frankfurt Music Show early April 2009, Klavis Technologies s.a. will introduce and showcase CopperLan, a networking system for command and control and streaming management that brings about a totally new approach to linking and interfacing musical equipment.
On this occasion, the press is also invited to discover the potentialities of CopperLan, with demo applications and equipment to provide a hands-on experience of the system's capabilities.
Resulting from several years of intensive research and development, CopperLan is a combination of software, middleware, drivers, a communication protocol and procedures that apply to computing platforms and embedded devices.
Inside a single computer or a cluster (Mac, PC and Linux to follow), CopperLan runs a virtual network. The CopperLan service transparently ties all resident MI hardware and software applications together in a single unified entity, that in turn can extend to other computers and/or musical equipment. Wherever physically located in a setup, all MIDI based applications and equipment will also happily exchange data with CopperLan, benefiting from its advanced capabilities.
Shared intelligence between devices and the self-configuring setup routines make the use of a computer even optional and take away the need for tedious (re)configurations, providing hot plugging and instant interaction throughout the entire setup.
By design, CopperLan's native network topology can be applied to any existing or future connectivity standard (Ethernet, USB, FireWire, MADI, custom...). Cabling and distribution is achieved using commercial components and connectors.
CopperLan offers MI manufacturers original and innovative solutions to boost creativity in the development of market leading products:
musicality and expression dramatically enhanced reaching levels of precision only seen so far in the domain of acoustic instruments;
uncompromising user-friendliness - no constraints for a particular placement or connecting sequence of the equipment, full auto-setup, plug and play, universal remote editing, total setup recall, streamlined and unified user interface methods, clear and concrete identification of devices/parameters as everything bears proper names;
full compatibility with MIDI guarantees the unconditional integration of existing equipment.
"The CopperLan protocol has been conceptually engineered to stand the test of time and certainly provides room for future expansion" explains Erik Lukac-Kuruc, Chief Technical Officer and co-founder of Klavis Technologies s.a., "While current specifications yet cover a wide scope of applications and exciting features, additional requirements to fulfill specific needs can be easily addressed and integrated without disrupting existing schemes".
For a trouble-free implementation, CopperLan will provide MI manufacturers with a comprehensive SDK with well documented examples of application code for both hardware and software products.
In addition, the CopperLan Host Application Interface (CHAI) contains a wide library of pre-assembled routines that will simplify the integration into the manufacturer's code.
